Build a personalized news feed
Pick the publications you trust and the topics you care about. Owlie reads every new article, keeps the ones that match, and gives you a short summary of each, so you know what happened without opening thirty tabs.
The recipe
One Operation is your whole feed. These are the settings to choose when you create it; you can change any of them later.
Sources
Add the publications you read: paste an RSS feed or the address of a site that publishes one. Owlie checks every feed each hour and reads the full text of each new article.Filter
Choose Keywords and list the topics, separated by commas, such as “battery, solar, grid storage”. An article is kept when any of them appears. For topics that keywords can’t pin down, write AI criteria instead.Transform
Choose Analyze with AI and say how you like your news: three bullet points, why it matters, what to watch next. Or choose Extract only to keep the clean article text without a summary.Deliver
Your feed is your Inbox: newest first, marked read as you open each item, with a link to the original. Turn on email to get each new Result as it arrives.
Example
Illustrative example with a made-up article. The keyword “grid storage” kept it; the instruction shapes the summary.
Extracted content
The article text Owlie extracted from a new post in a publication’s feed.
Article
City approves its largest battery project to date The city council voted 7–2 on Tuesday to approve a 200-megawatt grid storage site on the former rail yard. The batteries will charge from solar farms during the day and power about 60,000 homes for four hours each evening. Construction starts in spring and the utility expects it to lower peak prices. Two members voted against over fire safety concerns…Instruction
Written once in the Operation and applied to every matching article.
Analyze with AI
Summarize in three short bullet points for a busy reader. Then add one line on why it matters and one on what to watch next. No more than 80 words.Result
One entry in your feed, with a link to the original article.
Result
- Council approved a 200 MW grid storage site, 7–2. - It stores daytime solar and can power ~60,000 homes for 4 hours. - Construction starts in spring. Why it matters: the utility expects lower evening peak prices. Watch next: the fire safety concerns raised by the two members who voted against.
Variations
The same recipe with different Sources and fields.
Your industry, every morning
Follow the trade publications of your industry and list your competitors and products as keywords. Read the matches with your coffee instead of scanning every headline.
Local news without the noise
Follow your city’s papers and blogs and write AI criteria such as “decisions that affect residents: housing, transport, schools”, so you skip crime briefs and sports.
One feed per interest
Create one Operation for each interest and give each its own Label: one for climate, one for design, one for your favorite sport. Your Inbox can show one Label at a time.
Read later, cleaned up
Choose Extract only with no filter to keep the full, clean text of every article from a few long-form writers, without ads or page clutter.
Good to know
What this recipe can and can’t do today.
Sites need a feed
Owlie follows a publication through its RSS or Atom feed. You can add a single article from any site, but to get every new article the site has to publish a feed.
Paywalled articles stay locked
Owlie reads what the page shows a visitor. When an article is behind a paywall, the Result can only use the part that is public.
Keywords match words, not ideas
A keyword filter keeps an article when one of your words or phrases appears in it, in any letter case. It doesn’t know synonyms. Use AI criteria when the topic is broader than a few words.
What it costs
Keyword checks are free. Each summarized article costs 1 credit plus its AI usage, so at least 2 credits; Extract only costs 1 credit per article. AI criteria cost at least 1 credit per article they read. New accounts start with free credits.
Questions
Short answers to what people ask most.
Is Owlie an RSS reader?
It reads RSS feeds, but it does more than list headlines: it extracts each full article, keeps only the ones that match your topics, and can summarize them before you read.
How often does my feed update?
Owlie checks every feed at the top of each hour. New articles appear in your Inbox once they are processed, usually within minutes of the check.
Can I get my news by email?
Yes. Turn on email in the Operation and Owlie sends a short notice with a preview and a link for each new Result.
Can I add YouTube channels or podcasts to the same feed?
Yes. One Operation can follow RSS feeds, YouTube channels, podcasts and subreddits together, with the same filter and the same summary instruction.
