Use cases

Get the key points from every podcast

There are more good episodes than hours to hear them. Follow your podcasts and Owlie transcribes every new episode and pulls out what you would have taken notes on: the takeaways, the claims, the books and tools mentioned, and what to do next.

The recipe

One Operation follows all your shows. These are the settings to choose when you create it; you can change any of them later.

  1. Sources

Add each show with its Apple Podcasts link or its RSS feed. Owlie checks every feed each hour and transcribes the audio of each new episode.
  2. Filter

Choose Everything to get notes on every episode. To keep only some, list keywords such as a guest’s name or a topic, or write AI criteria; either way, the filter reads the transcript.
  3. Transform

Choose Analyze with AI and write how you take notes: key takeaways, notable claims, references, action items. Or choose Structured content to get the same fields for every episode.
  4. Deliver

Notes land in your Inbox with a link to the episode. Turn on email to get them as each episode comes out, or send them to a webhook to keep them in your notes app.

Example

Illustrative example with a made-up episode. The transcript is long; the Result is what you would keep.

  1. Extracted content

Part of the transcript Owlie made from a new episode’s audio.

    Podcast transcript

…the biggest mistake I see is teams hiring a second engineer before they have ten paying customers. In our data, the companies that waited reached revenue about six months sooner. I wrote about this in “Small Teams, Big Bets”, and we use a simple rule: one weekly call with a customer for every engineer on the team. If you can't fill those calls, you don't need the next hire yet…
  2. Instruction

Written once in the Operation and applied to every new episode.

    Analyze with AI

    Write my episode notes:
    - Key takeaways (3 to 5)
    - Claims with numbers, as stated
    - Books, tools and people mentioned
    - One action item for a founder
Keep each line short. Don't add anything that isn't in the episode.
  3. Result

Notes for one episode, with a link to listen.

    Result

    Key takeaways
    - Don't hire a second engineer before ten paying customers.
    - Pair every engineer with one weekly customer call.

    Claims
    - Teams that waited reached revenue about six months sooner (guest's own data).

    References
    - “Small Teams, Big Bets” (guest's book)

    Action item
    - Count your weekly customer calls before opening the next role.

Variations

The same recipe with different Sources and fields.

  • Only the episodes worth your time

Follow a daily news show with AI criteria such as “episodes about interest rates or housing”, and get notes only on those, not on every episode.

  • A research log from interviews

Use Structured content with fields for the guest, their company, the claims they make and the sources they cite, and collect them across shows for later.

  • Show notes for your own podcast

Add your own feed and ask for a summary, chapter topics and the links mentioned, ready to edit into show notes after each release.

  • Learn from one field

Follow the four or five shows that cover your field and ask for “one idea I can apply this week”. Reading the notes takes minutes; you listen only when one stands out.

Good to know

What this recipe can and can’t do today.

  • Every new episode is transcribed

Owlie turns the audio into text before anything else, so a filter reads the transcript. Episodes a filter leaves out are transcribed too, and transcription is charged for them.

  • Public feeds only

Owlie needs the show’s public feed, which most shows publish and Apple Podcasts links lead to. Private, members-only feeds and shows exclusive to one app can’t be read.

  • Notes arrive after the transcript

Owlie checks feeds every hour, and a long episode takes a while to transcribe, so notes can arrive a little later than the episode does.

  • What it costs

Transcription costs 0.25 credits per minute of audio, at least 1 credit an episode, so an hour-long episode costs 15. The notes add 1 credit for the Result plus their AI usage, at least 1 more. New accounts start with free credits.

Questions

Short answers to what people ask most.

  • Can AI summarize a podcast episode?

Yes. Owlie transcribes the audio and the AI writes the summary from the whole transcript, following your instruction, so it can quote claims and list what was mentioned.

  • Do I need the podcast’s RSS feed?

No. Paste the show’s Apple Podcasts link and Owlie finds its feed. You can also paste the RSS feed directly.

  • Can I get the full transcript?

Yes. Choose Extract only and each Result is the episode’s transcript, without a summary. You can search it in your Inbox or send it to a webhook.

  • Can I add YouTube channels too?

Yes. Many shows also publish on YouTube. One Operation can follow podcasts and YouTube channels together, and YouTube videos don’t need audio transcription.
